Notes and/or Cautions:
Vitamin E belongs to a family of 8 antioxidants known as Tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta) and Tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta). Gamma tocopherol is the most common form found in food, however, alpha tocopherol is more readily taken up by the body through the liver. In the blood, alpha-tocopherol and gamma tocopherol are found in a 10:1 ratio. However, the gamma form has recently been found to have some benefits in fighting Colon cancer

Vitamin E can be depleted by birth control pills, cooking at high temperatures, especially frying, air pollution, excessive intake of processed or refined fats and oils. Inorganic forms of iron destroy vitamin E. Organic forms leave it intake (ferrous gluconate or ferrous fumarate)

Vitamin E is a fat soluable vitamin. Be sure to take supplements in the natural form known as d-alpha-tocopherol. Synthetic forms are cheaper to produce but are not completely active. The body needs zinc in order to maintain proper levels of vitamin E in the body.

Recommended Dosages for Maintaining Good Health (for Adults):
